Git and Github

Managing different versions and sharing code with collaborators can quickly become a challenge. git is a popular version control software and github.com offers free online hosting of “repositories” for educational users.

This training will cover the basics of using git on the command line on HiPerGator and using github.com to host repositories. The training is intended to be an introduction to version control and using git. Users should have basic familiarity with the Linux command line and a Research Computing account. While this training will use HiPerGator, most of the exercises can be completed without a Research Computing account on participant’s computers.

Please bring a computer for the hands-on portions of this training.
